It has been known for a while now that Lady Gaga has applied for an internship at one of the world's most well known hat designers, Philip Treacy. Having seen that Philip Treacy's hats are more avant garde than that of Louis Vuitton's handbags, but no less attractive to the rich or famous, writes Sean Michaels. Gaga has received a lot of attention for her improbable headgear, and Treacy showed a bit of pique when asked about the singer in March. Lady Gaga's interesting sense of style has kept many designers with their eyes on her. Treacy worked with Gaga on her Monster's Ball tour and she was so smitten that she now wants to work with him.

Fur & its Warmth

People who keep up with fashion and its trends know that fur has been very popular for the fall and winter this past year. For some, it's always in fashion. But many people also tend to wonder if these designers forget that wearing fur is often associated with controversy. For the first time in a very extended time, more designers are opting to utilize fur than not. Among designers such as Oscar De La Renta, Proenza Schouler, Diana Von Furstenberg, and Thom Browne (just to name a few) were some of the designers that chose to incorporate fur in their wardrobe. Not only that, but in other regions such as Milan is just got hairier. The NY Times states that "fur became a trend because of a marketing campaign." Throughout the years, many designers have attempted to lure young designers to embrace fur by giving them free samples and through trade groups. Many young designers went about it by "saying they were less interested in fur as a luxury statement or an act of defiance than as a novel design." Fur marketing is done by giving designers free money and fur so they can have it go down the runway even though the population will never see that clothes in shops, says Dan Mathews, who is the senior VP for PETA. And although some people know about what happened in the chain production, they still choose to wear fur and indeed do believe it is humane.

Short and Sleek
New elements of design are going into Monique Lhuillier's Spring 2011 bride collection titled "A Field of Dreams". Many whimsical details are put into these bridal gowns, as well as romantic embellishments like "butterflies, branches, twigs, wheat stalks, and feathers [which] are woven into soft layers of tulle", writes Renata Espinosa for Yahoo! News. Lhuillier wants her short and sleek gowns to show off women's figures. Some of her dresses are versatile and can be worn with a short or long hem, making it appealing to women who are fond of practical wardrobe. Overshadowing silhouettes this season is the lean trumpet silhouette, which accentuates curves making it a better choice for women who have an hour glass figure.Thursday, April 15, 2010
Camel is IN

A versatile article of clothing is a treasure when found. Camel, a clothing piece featured in the article: the neutral-toned coat, was seen on the runways for spring 2010 and everywhere during the fall collections which included high-end designers like Stella McCartney and Phillip Lim. It is classy and sophisticated and "it's not just a boring officewear staple anymore", says Vogue Associate Accessories Editor Serena Nikkhah. With designers coming out with different styles of camel, it is appearing to have a younger vibe that carries a chic quality to it. It can be worn in different seasons, which is a plus because you do not only have to utilize it only during the winter. Florence Kane, writer for Vogue Daily, adds Fashion Editor Jessica Sailer's input to the article that camel has an "equestrian look", which is an interesting and distinct quality to have in one's wardrobe. There are many ways to wear camel and that is why it is a becoming trend.

A Trend to Yodel About
Out with the Old, In with the New
Clogs have been popular for many years in other countries outside of the US. Swedish clogs became popular in the 1970s/1980s and of course clogs have been very recognizable along the Dutch population. They can appear somewhat grotesque at first glance because of their bulkiness and form on the foot, but having been exposed to Karl Lagerfeld and Michael Kors updated clogs for the year of 2010, different opinions may be concluded. The store No. 6 in Little Italy is giving shoppers nice little options like picking out their own fabric to make their clogs. Personally, I do not like that these shoes are becoming a trend because I am not a fan of the shoes. However, I have seen some clogs that have been the exception because of their exquisite design. I like that some are very distinguished and only carry some qualities of the traditional clogs.

Big Hair, Big News

Voluminous Locks
Society has always looked upon the wealthy and the famous for inspiration in the aspect of fashion and style. Jersey Shore's Nicole (Snooki) Polizzi has been noted for her ever so popular "poof", making it a fashion trend in New Jersey. Not only has she been recognized to be sporting big hair; Hillary Clinton, Secretary of State, has jumped on the band wagon. Big hair and "voluminous locks" have been recognized to "symbolize female power throughout history". Roman women who were wealthy could afford to do elaborate hairstyles that were huge in comparison to other women and the hairstyling didn't end there it went on to Marie Antoinette and her four-foot wigs and on. Big hair has also been witnessed on the runway in the fall of 2009. In New York, Rocha was inspired by the 1960s pouf. Many women are becoming iconic for the way their hair is worn, especially when it is distinctively noticeable like in Snooki's case. I have always been a fan of big hair and as Stephanie Kocielski, artistic director of John Paul Mitchell Systems, put it: "The bigger the hair, the closer to God".
